Category Buyer – Packaging

An exciting opportunity to join and be part of a leading organisation with ambitious 5-year growth plans and lots of potential both within the Jordans Dorset Ryvita Procurement team and the wider ABF group.

Reporting to the Packaging Category manager, this role is based in Biggleswade, with hybrid working (approx. 1 -2 days a week in the office). This is a great opportunity to be involved in managing the packaging that goes around our great tasting, honest, real food!

The core focus of this role is to……

  • Source packaging materials, using the approved processes and tools (including tenders e-sourcing) and ensuring transparent and competitive sourcing events which are conducted in line with company policy and procedures.
  • Conduct robust and detailed category plans and spend analysis to identify areas of opportunity for value creation, identify and manage risk.
  • Develop and implement successful buying strategies to deliver to business requirements, specific objectives and targets within timelines as agreed.
  • Engage with business stakeholders to promote better buying skills and act as a Procurement ambassador within the company and across with wider ABF packaging community.
  • Lead and/or represent the Procurement department on specific cross-functional projects and support the Procurement team on strategic activity outside of own portfolio of spend categories.

Key accountabilities

  • Ensuring our suppliers meet JDR’s high standards and deliver additional value through strong supplier management (SRM) practice.
  • Ensure business risks are analysed, understood and managed as far as possible (supply, CSR/ethics, governance etc.) for their spend categories whilst playing a supporting role in managing ethical risk and opportunity
  • To take responsibility for current and future budgets for own category areas and provide updates on category performance against these budgets.
  • Focus, develop and implement sustainable next generation packaging sourcing formats.
  • Acting in a safe manner to protect the health and safety of yourself and others at all times.
  • Follow all governance assessments, including but not limited to; anti-bribery and corruption, data protection and modern slavery.

Experience and Skills

  • Achieved significant cost savings/service improvements using traditional and creative procurement approaches whilst maintaining service and quality
  • Analytical/Problem-solving skills
  • Ability to apply best practice procurement principles to a wide range of expenditure, showing transferability of skills and approaches and the ability to quickly identify the key drivers of a particular category/service
